ASCO™ Solenoid Valves

From the general-service workhorses that switch water, air and fuel gas to the balanced-poppet pilots that trip a control valve — the ASCO™ solenoid line covers the on/off and pilot duty across the plant.

A solenoid valve does one job and has to do it every time: energize the coil, move the plunger, open or close the port. The failure modes are mundane and expensive — a coil that burns on the wrong voltage, a seal that swells on the wrong fluid, a valve that will not shift because the line has no differential pressure. Picking the series is picking against those failures.

The line splits along three decisions. Direct acting or pilot operated: direct-acting constructions like the 320 and 327 work at zero differential, so they shift on a dead line; pilot-operated ones like the 210 and 238 use line pressure to do the work and deliver far more flow for the same coil. Function: 2/2 to stop or pass, 3/2 to pilot a spring-return actuator, 5/2 to drive a double-acting one. Body and seal: brass for general service, stainless for corrosives, and the elastomer chosen against the fluid and its temperature.

Series 223

223 (8223) High-Pressure Solenoid Valves

The high-pressure member of the line: a pilot-operated valve with rugged piston construction and an angle body for high flow, rated to 1,500 psi (103 bar). Note that Emerson classifies it under solenoid valves, not in its High Pressure Valves category — which is a TESCOM™ catalogue.
