ASCO™ Proportional Valves

Not open or shut — anywhere in between. Proportional valves meter flow in step with an electrical signal, so the process holds a setpoint instead of chasing it with on/off pulses.

An on/off valve can only approximate a setpoint by cycling. A proportional valve holds it: the coil current sets how far the plunger lifts, and flow follows the signal. What matters then is not shut-off but the quality of that relationship — hysteresis (does it return to the same flow coming down as going up), repeatability and sensitivity (the smallest change it can resolve).

The line splits by how the loop is closed. Open loop — the 202 Posiflow, 202 Preciflow IPC, 203 and 209 — takes the command signal and trusts the valve; the IPC adds pressure compensation so inlet swings do not move the flow. External control — the 602 — ships with no on-board electronics at all, which is what you want when ambient heat would cook them. And the 610 MotorFlowD is motorised rather than solenoid, so it works where there is no pilot air, while the 630 piezo draws 0.004 W for battery-powered analytical instruments.
